The Port Harcourt serial killings occurred in the year 2019 at various hotels in the city of Port Harcourt in Rivers state, Nigeria. The sad incident remained a mystery for a while until a prime suspect – Gracious David West – was arrested by the Nigerian Police. His fate was decided today, October 9, 2020 in court as the final judgment had him sentenced to death by hanging. Timeline of the Port Harcourt Serial Killings

  • August 1, 2019: hotel workers discovered a dead body of a lady known as Maureen Ewuru in Brooklyn Hotel D/Line Port Harcourt
  • August 14, 2019: Another dead body was discovered in a hotel along Woji Road, GRA Phase 2 in Port Harcourt.
  • Between August and September 2019: Dead bodies of nine different ladies were discovered in different hotels across Rivers State. This raised tension among inhabitants of the city, especially among women.
  • As the tension increases, the Rivers state Police command advised women not to go into prostitution so as not to fall victim of serial killings.
  • September 18, 2019: A group of over 70 women carried a protest in the city of Port Harcourt against the serial killing of women across the state.
  • September 19, 2020: Police arrested Gracious David-West as the prime suspect of the ongoing serial killings in hotels across the Rivers state.
