The Honorable Minister of Health in Nigeria, Osagie Ehanire, on Monday, March 9, 2020 reports a second case of the deadly Coronavirus in Nigeria. This has brought the number of established case in the country to two, after the outbreak of the deadly virus in China.

The Minister of Health revealed this information on the verified Twitter page of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in the early hours of today.

Nigeria Records Second Case of Coronavirus in the Country

According to the information revealed by the Minister:

“This second case is a contact of the index case, in Ogun state. The new case has been in isolation and was tested as part of our strategy to test all contacts of the index case”.

“Recent studies have shown that increased surveillance, isolation of contacts & in particular, contact tracing reduces the risk of spread of Coronavirus”.

“All other contacts of the index case in Ogun & Lagos will remain in isolation & testing will be done on those not yet tested”.

“Since the first case was confirmed in Lagos, the NCDC has been supporting the Ogun State Emergency Operations Centre to respond accordingly”.
