The Abia State Polytechnic in Aba has gotten a new Rector, and he is Dr. Okorie Kalu Osonwa. The approval of the appointment was carried out by the Abia State Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D, on September 8, 2020, and the appointment took an immediate effect from the said date. The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government and it reads thus.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, PhD, has approved the appointment of Associate Professor Okorie Kalu Osonwa as Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.
The appointment takes immediate effect.

A Brief Introduction of Dr. Okorie Kalu Osonwa, the New Rector of Abia State Polytechnic Aba
- Dr. Okorie Kalu Osonwa is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Calabar, Calabar.
- He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.sc) in Economics from the University of Nigeria (UNN), a Master of Arts (M.A) in Population Studies from University of Ghana, Legon, and a Ph.D in Sociology (Demography) from the University of Calabar, Calabar.
- Dr. Osonwa was a visiting scholar in the University of North Texas, Denton Texas, USA, from 2013 to 2014 for the study of Gerontology, sponsored by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
- He was Head of Sociology Department (2014-2016), and held some other Academic related portfolios prior to this appointment.
