As earlier stated in the preceding post, List of State Universities in Nigeria, the boom of the 70s resulted in the expansion of the tertiary education sector, leading to the Federal Government granting licenses to individuals, religious and corporate bodies to found private tertiary institutions. The private sector has come to be the largest in the tertiary education field, boasting over 60 institutions currently accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the regulatory body established for control and regulation of the Tertiary Education sector. The list of Private universities in Nigeria currently approved is below, with updates added from time to time as NUC accredits more universities to the ever-growing private tertiary education sector. Their current vice-chancellors, official website, and year of establishment are also added.
