The 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will be the 47th season since its establishment in 1972, and the 27th season since the league was rebranded as the “Professional League”. The NPFL is a top competition involving 20 association football clubs in Nigeria. Plateau United won the league in the 46th season on Saturday, 9th September 2017. The 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League  kicks off on Sunday, the 14th of January 2018, and this post contains some information of the 20 NPFL teams that will be competing for the league trophy this season.

  1. Abia Warriors

Abia Warriors FC will be one of the 2018 Nigeria professional Football League Team that will be representing Abia state as a whole. The team go by the nick name “Ochendo Babes”, coined from the title of the former Governor of Abia state. Abia Warriors Football Club was established in the year 2005, and their home ground is the Umuahia Township Stadium located in the capital of the state. The coach of the team is Rafael Everton from Brazil and the team captain remains Austin Obaroakpo.

  1. Akwa United

Akwa United was established in the year 1998, and they go by the nick name “Promise Keepers”. The home ground of the club is known as the “Nest Of Champions” located in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state. The team captain is Ottobong Effiong, while the overall team coach is Abdu Maikaba.

  1. El kanemi Warriors

Going by the nick name “Borno Army”, the El kanemi Warriors Football Club was established in the year 1986 and their home ground is the El Kanemi Stadium in Maiduguri, Borno state. Their head coach is Imama Amapakabo, and the team captain is George Michael.

  1. Enugu Rangers

The Enugu Rangers Football Club was the NPFL champions two seasons ago, and this time again they are set for the battle in the 2017/2018 NPFL season. The club was established in the year 1970 and they go by the nick name “Flying Antelopes”. The teams home ground is the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Located in Enugu, the capital of the state. The players of Enugu Rangers will be led by their captain, Chibuzor Madu, while the head coach is Gbenga Ogunbote.

  1. Enyimba FC

Enyimba FC remains one of the popular Football Club coming from the South Eastern part of Nigeria after their plights in Nigeria professional League and the CAF Champions League. They are the second 2018 NPFL team coming from Abia state. Enyimba FC was established in 1976, and he team goes by the name “The People’s Elephant”. The temporal home ground they will be using for the 2018 NPFL season is the Eusene Stadium in Calabar. The teams coach is Paul Aigbogun and the Captain is Mfon Udoh.

  1. FC Go Round

FC Go Round is the newest entrant into the Nigeria Professional League, and they will be part of the 2018 NPFL season. No much details of the club have been collated yet, but their team coach is Ngozi Elechi while the team captain is Nelson Esor.

  1. Heartland FC

Heartland FC was established in the year 1976, and the team in known by the nick name “Naze Millionaires”. Their home ground is the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, the capital of Imo state. The head coach is Ramsin Madu and the team captain is Julius Ubido.

  1. Ifeanyi Ubah FC

Going by the nick name “Anambra Warriors”, the Ifeanyi Ubah FC was established in the year 2015. The team’s home ground is the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium, located in Anambra state. The team will be led into the 2018 Nigeria Professional League season by their head coach, Ladan Bosso and captain Wilson Elu.

  1. Kano Pillars

The Kano Pillars FC was established in the year 1990, and they are known by the nick name “Masu Gida”. Their home ground is the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kano, and the team coach and captain are Ibrahim Musa and Rabiu Ali respectively.

  1. Katsina United

Popularly known as the “Changi Boys”, the Katsina United FC players will be among those competing for the 2018 NPFL season. The club was established in 1994 and their home ground remains the Katsina Stadium in Katsina. The head coach of the team is Abdullahi Bifflo while the team captain is Nasiru Sani.

  1. Kwara United

Kwara United FC was established in 1997 and their home ground remains the Kwara Stadium in Kwara state. They go by the nick name “Harmony Boys”, and their head coach is John Obuh, whiel the team captain is Dare Ojo.

  1. Lobi Stars

Going by the nick name “Ortom Boys” (coined from the name of the present Governor of Benue State), Lobi Stars FC will be one of the teams to watch out for this 2018 NPFL season. The club was established in the year 1981, and their home ground remains the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, Benue state. The head coach of the team is Solomon Ogbeide while the captain is Anthony Agbaji.

  1. Mountain Of Fire Ministries (MFM) FC

MFM FC was established in the year 2007, and the team is popularly known as the “Olukoya Boys”. Their home ground is the Agege Stadium in Lagos state. The coach of the team is Fidelis Ikechukwu and the team captain is Austin Opara.

  1. Nasarawa United

Nasarawa United FC was established in the year 2003, and the team is known as the “Solid Miners”. Their home ground is the Nasarawa Township Stadium, tram coach for the 2018 NPFL season is kabiru Dogo and team captain is Emmanuel Makama.

  1. Niger Tornadoes

Niger Tornadoes FC was established in the year 1977, and their temporal home ground for the 2018 Nigeria Professional League season is the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, in Kogi state. The team goes by the nick name “Allah Boys”, and they will be led by their head coach, Erasmus Onu and team captain, Aliko Mustapha.

  1. Plateau United

Plateau United FC was established in the year 1975, and they are know by the nick name “The Peace Boys”. The home ground of the club is the Pam Stadium in Jos. The head coach of the team is Kennedy Boboye, while the team captain is Elisha Golbe.

  1. Rivers United

Rivers United FC was established in the year 2016 and their home ground is the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt. The team is popularly known as the “Pride of Rivers”. Their head coach is Stanley Eguma while the team’s captain is Festus Austin.

  1. Sunshine Stars

Sunshine Stars FC was established in the year 1995 and they go by the nick name “Owena Waves”. The club’s home ground is the Akure Township Stadium in Ondo state. The head coach of the team is Duke Udi and the captain is Alaba Adeniyi.

  1. Wikki Tourists

Wikki Tourists FC teams is popularly known as the “Bauchi Elephants”, the club was established in 1992 and their home ground is the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. The team wil be led into the 2018 Nigeria Professional League season by their head coach, Bala Nkiyu, and team captain Ibrahim Mustapha.

  1. Yobe Stars

Yobe Stars FC was established in the year 1991, and their home ground is the Damaturu Township Stadium in Yobe state. The coach of the team is Muhammed Baba Ganaru.

This is the complete list of teams that will be competing in the 2017/2018 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League. Like I stated earlier, the season will kick off on January 14th 2018. There will be three mid-week matches on match day 2, 4 and 5, while the mid-season break will be from April 30th to May 5th 2018. The league will also experience a long break as a result of the 2018World cup which will span from June 14th to July 15th, 2018.
