The people of Umunneochi Local Government Area on Friday, July 24, 2026, hosted Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, to a grand civic reception at Peace Secondary School, Amuda, Isuochi.

Governor Otti Reaffirms Commitment To Inclusive Governance, Extends Electric Bus Routes As Umunneochi LGA Honors Him For Transformational Leadership

The event was in appreciation of the transformative impact of his administration in Umunneochi and across the State. The people also reaffirmed their unwavering support for his second-term bid in 2027.

Speaking at the event, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, equitable development, and sustained transformation across every part of Abia State.

The Governor declared that Abia had left behind the era of stagnation and would continue to move from glory to glory, stressing that the State would never return to its ignominious past.

Governor Otti emphasized that his administration remains committed to ensuring balanced development across all communities, irrespective of location. He assured the people that the long-awaited Mmam Bridge, which was included in the 2026 budget following earlier engagements with Umunneochi stakeholders, would be constructed alongside other critical infrastructure projects.

He further stated that strategic investments in free and quality education, road infrastructure, and other people-centered initiatives remain at the heart of his administration’s vision to improve the quality of life for all Abians and drive sustainable development.

“This is your government, and because it is your government, we will continue to invest in your future through education, infrastructure and other people-oriented projects,” Gov. Otti stated.

The State Chief Executive announced plans to extend the State’s Electric Bus Green Shuttle transportation system to Umunneochi following the arrival of more 20 new electric buses.

He disclosed that new routes connecting Umuahia – Umunneochi and Umuahia – Okigwe – Uturu, ABSU, would soon commence operations to improve connectivity and ease transportation for residents and students.

The Governor commended the people for supporting government efforts to protect lives and property. He stressed that community collaboration remains vital in the fight against crime.

“Anyone with criminal intentions should either repent or leave because we will smoke criminals out. Together, we shall continue to keep Abia safe for everyone,” Gov. Otti warned.

In their goodwill messages, the Labour Party Abia North Senatorial candidate, Chief David Ogba Onuoha; Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Ogah; Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Mathias Umeh; and elder statesman and former Minister of Education and Health, Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike, commended Governor Otti for the visible development his administration has brought to the State, particularly in healthcare, road infrastructure, education, and restoration of public confidence in government.

They stated that Governor Otti has demonstrated good governance, exceptional leadership, and the capacity to deliver quality service, and deserves another term in office in 2027.

In separate remarks, the Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije; Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Ngozi Azode; Mayor of Umunneochi LGA, Chief Sunny Afurobi; Mr. Uche Okoroafor; and the representative of the Northern community in Umuchieze, Alhaji Buba Abdullahi, described Governor Otti as a grassroots-oriented and people-centered leader.

They thanked the Governor for his numerous interventions in Umunneochi, including: tackling insecurity, approving the construction of a brand-new General Hospital, retrofitting 19 Primary Healthcare Centres – 12 of which are already fully functional and providing services to residents – as well as executing road projects and improving educational infrastructure. They assured him of their support for his reelection in 2027.

Alhaji Buba Abdullahi in particular said Umunneochi has become a peaceful home for all residents following the Governor’s decisive actions against insecurity. He described Governor Otti as a leader who does not merely make promises but fulfils them through tangible development.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the formal reception of new members into the Labour Party and the presentation of the party flag by Governor Otti and the State Chairman of the Labour Party. The new members were led by the 2023 PDP Deputy Governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Jasper Uche.

The event was attended by many distinguished personalities from across the State.
