Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has assured the New Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 9, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, of the State Government’s continued support towards improving the operational environment and welfare of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in the State.

We Will Continue to Support You, Make Environment More Friendly - Governor Otti Assures New AIG Zone 9

Governor Otti gave the assurance on Friday, October 2, 2026, in his office, when the newly posted AIG Zone 9 paid him a courtesy visit.

The Governor urged the AIG to continue working closely with the State Government and other relevant stakeholders, assuring him that government remains available to support initiatives aimed at strengthening security.

“We will continue to support you. We will continue to make the environment more friendly for you to operate,” Governor Otti assured.

Governor Otti said his administration is committed to supporting security agencies and would examine the logistics and infrastructural challenges raised by the AIG with a view to addressing them.

The State Chief Executive said government would look into the issue of operational vehicles, including the possibility of providing new ones or supporting the holistic repair and replacement of existing ones, stressing that the Police need reliable mobility to respond effectively to security situations.

“We have heard about the logistic challenges at the Zone 9 Headquarters, especially the vehicles. Sometimes, you call for service and you cannot rely on the vehicle because of its condition.

“We will look at it. We need to evaluate these things properly and see what we can do to support you,” Governor Otti stated.

The Governor also promised to provide a solar solution to the Zone, assuring that other issues raised during the meeting would also be addressed.

According to him, government will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to create an environment conducive for effective security operations, adding that the administration appreciates the sacrifices being made by security personnel in protecting lives and properties.

Earlier, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9, Umuahia, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, said he came to formally introduce himself to Governor Otti following his recent redeployment to take charge of Zone 9, Umuahia.

He highlighted challenges confronting the Zonal Headquarters, including unserviceable operational vehicles, lack of a functional 150KVA generator to ensure uninterrupted power supply, and the need for installation of solar lights at the headquarters, among others.

He appealed to the State Government to support the Police in addressing the challenges, noting that improved logistics and facilities would enhance effectiveness and welfare of personnel in the Zone.

The AIG noted that security is a collective responsibility requiring cooperation between government and security agencies, assuring that the Police under his leadership would remain committed to professionalism, discipline and strict adherence to the rule of law, with focus on crime prevention, protection of lives and property, prompt response to security incidents and improved crime detection.

The meeting was attended by the operational commanders of the force including senior officials of the Police force.
