Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has directed the immediate commencement of rehabilitation works at Ibeama Primary School, Ndume Otuka, the primary school attended by Nigeria’s former Military Head of State, late General Aguiyi Ironsi.
The Governor also directed the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, to take a look at the community road leading to the late General’s house and report back to him with a view to rehabilitating it.
Governor Otti gave the directives on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Ibeama Primary School, Ndume, Umuahia North, during a civic reception organised in honour of the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Nmeregini.
Responding to two requests presented by community leaders of Ndume Otuka, the immediate community of late General Ironsi, Governor Otti said:
“We have taken notes of the request that was made by the elder statesman.
“The first one is the road that leads to General Ironsi’s house. I will detail the Commissioner for Works to go and have a look and come back to me.
“The second one is about the school. We are carrying out a comprehensive rehabilitation of all the schools in the State. And I believe that this is not left out. The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board is here.
“So, she is hereby given an instruction to come back here by Monday and begin to look at how we will fast track the rehabilitation of the school.”
The Governor noted that his administration is undertaking a comprehensive rehabilitation of all schools across the 17 LGAs of the State.
Governor Otti thanked the people for recognising the positive impact of his government and for their promise to support him and all Labour Party candidates in the 2027 elections.
“I would like to say thank you for coming, thank you for the support you are giving this government.
“Our promise to you is that we shall not stop, nothing will stop us. And with your promise to support all of us for the next election, all we want to say is thank you,” Gov. Otti stated.
The State Chief Executive appreciated the people of Umuahia East State Constituency for organising a thanksgiving unto the Lord on behalf of their son, noting that the scripture commends people who show gratitude to God.
In their goodwill messages, the President-General of Ndume Otuka Development Union, Deacon Okezie Onyemauwa, and Elder Chimezie Ndukwe, expressed profound gratitude to God for the remarkable transformation taking place in Abia State under Governor Otti.
They commended the Governor for his people-oriented policies and developmental strides across the State, noting that his administration has restored hope and confidence among the people through the delivery of impactful projects and good governance.
The community leaders further pledged their unwavering support and loyalty to Governor Otti, assuring him that they are solidly behind his reelection bid in the 2027 general election. They also drew the Governor’s attention to the deplorable condition of the road leading to Late General Ironsi’s house and the primary school attended by the late General.
Earlier, the celebrant and Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Augustine Nmeregini, thanked God for making the event possible and thanked Governor Otti for honouring the event despite his busy schedule, describing it as a demonstration of his love for the people.
He noted that the majority of those who anchored the event were in opposition as at 2023, and said the reason for their support to the Governor was because of the transformational leadership he has brought to Abia. He congratulated those that joined the Labour Party and assured that, “together we shall continue to support the transformational leadership of Governor Otti.”
In a vote of thanks, the Chief Host of the reception and Chairman of Kingsuo Global Maritime Limited, Chief Kingsley Amaechi Offor, appreciated Governor Alex Otti on behalf of Umuahia East State Constituency for his transformational leadership in Abia State. Chief Offor noted that they decided to host their son, Rt. Hon. Nmeregini, because of his impactful representation, and assured that they would ensure that the Governor is reelected in 2027.
The event attracted many dignitaries including the Senatorial Candidate for Abia Central Zone, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Member representing Isiala-Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon.
