The reality TV show which garnered a lot of viewers and widespread followership in 2017, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), formerly Big Brother Nigeria, is set to return to screens in Big Brother Naija 2018 with promises of even more intrigue, suspense and entertainment.
Big Brother Naija is a home reality TV show in which contestants (called housemates) are made to live together in a specially built house for an average of three months, at the end of which the winner goes home with a large cash prize ($100,000 in the first season; N25,000,000 and an SUV in the second). The winner is chosen after all housemates have been evicted, with only two left standing.
The first season, Big Brother Nigeria was premiered on March 5, and ran till June 4, 2006 with then 26 year old Katung Aduwak, emerging the winner, Sandra Osaigbovo and others being runners up. This was the show/season which launched Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the host of BBNaija 2017 into the limelight, being a very popular housemate in the first season of the show. It was aired on DSTv Channel 37.
The second season came to screens eleven years later in BBNaija 2017, which premiered on 22 January 2017, and ran till April 9th 2017, with Michael “Efe” Ejeba, popularly known as Efe, coveting the mouth watering cash prize of 25 million naira and an SUV. First runner up was Bisola Aiyeola, after which came Tokunbo “TBoss” Idowu, and the rest.
BBNaija will return to screens again in a third edition on January 28th, 2018 with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu still the host, as announced by M-Net West Africa. It will be aired on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29. Auditions were held in six states across Nigeria late last year in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Bauchi, Warri and Ibadan, which as expected, drew massive crowds.
The winner of Big Brother Naija 2018 will take home prizes worth 45 million naira. The show will be sponsored by Payporte, a leading online store in Nigeria.
