Members of Aba Union, the Apex socio-cultural leadership body of the 9 Local Government Areas of the Old Aba Division have vowed to support Governor Alex Otti and ensure he is reelected in 2027.

2027: Aba Union Vows to Support Governor Alex Otti, Says They are Proud of Him

The group members made their position and resolve known at the Aba residence of an elder statesman and the first Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Abia State, Chief Theo Nkire at a private meeting with the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

Speaking at the meeting, the host, Chief Theo Nkire and the President of Aba Union, HRM. Eze Love Nwogu said that the gathering was to inform the Governor how proud they are with him as their son and to assure him of their unalloyed support for his reelection in 2027, having performed beyond their imagination.

They confessed that they did not support him during the 2023 elections but have now seen his works, which is undeniable, hence, they have resolved as a people, group and bloc to stand solidly with him, saying that with their support, the Governor would not have any opponent. They described his achievements as unparalleled, confirming that his 2 years has surpassed the 24 years before him and thanked him for being magnanimous in victory.

Chief Nkire and Eze Nwogu, who said that the Governor has endeared himself to the entire Ukwa la Ngwa nation, through the infrastructural turn around across the State and other projects, and said that, they are proud of him as their worthy son. They enumerated massive Road projects in Aba, especially Port-Harcourt Road, and other signature projects sited within Aba Union jurisdiction including, the Airport project in Nsulu, Medical Village in Owerrinta and the AIIP in Owaza and requested the Governor to approve a convenient date where the 9 LGAS of the old Aba Division under the umbrella of “Aba Union” will host him to a grand civic reception.

S,In their speeches, the Senator representing Abia South senatorial zone, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the Speaker Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, while acknowledging the giant strides of Governor Otti in two years as Governor, affirmed him as their concensus candidate in the forthcoming 2027 Governorship elections, questioning what any aspirant can tell the people of especially Aba, and the entire Abia, after witnessing the unprecedented transformation of the State under 2 years of Governor Alex Otti.

Addressing members of the Aba Union, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti thanked them for identifying with his government and noted that, power belongs to God. He said that his becoming Governor in 2023 was ordained by God and attributed his modest achievements to God’s abundant grace .

Governor Otti used the opportunity to inform the gathering that his government is reconstructing the Ohanku road using quality rigid pavement technology with an assurance of up to 50 years durability, adding that Obohia road is also undergoing similar solid reconstruction. The Governor used the opportunity of the meeting to announced that road reconstruction would soon commence at Uratta and Old Express roads.

The State Chief Executive while emphasizing the need for enduring peace, said that his administration would not tolerate any act of political irresponsibility from any quarter capable of threatening the prevailing peace and security across the State.

He informed the highly elated stakeholders that the country home of one the foremost leaders from Ngwaland, Late Chief Jaja Nwachukwu is undergoing serious renovation and retroffiting, including the road leading to his house. He disclosed that he would organise a posthumous birthday for him on the 1st of January 2026.

The Governor expressed joy with how pleased the stakeholders were with his administration and his modest achievements and described the host, Chief Theo Nkire as a father and friend.

The meeting was attended by the creme la creme of Ukwa la Ngwa and Old Aba Division including, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Rt. Hon Uzor Azubuike, Chief Chibuike Nwokeuku, SAN, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, SSA to the Governor on Cooperative Societies, Mr. Ismael Onuoha, Mayors of Aba South, Obingwa, Osisioma, Ugwunagbo, and Ukwa East LGAs, the Former Mayor of Aba South LGA and the State Coordinator of the Harmonised Taskforce, Mr. Uche Nwogu, Traditional Rulers from Ukwa la Ngwa and Old Aba Division, and a host of very prominent stakeholders of Ukwa la Ngwa extraction from across the country and the globe.
