When a sitting representative turns to his own constituents and says, “Show me what my predecessors did,” he is not defending a record. He is hiding the absence of one. It is the oldest trick of the failing politician: when your own scorecard is empty, demand that others produce theirs. Hon. Obi Aguocha, with the greatest respect, you do not set the exam and then ask the students to answer for you.

That question is a confession. It is the language of a man who has run out of achievements, run out of excuses and run out of time. It is a polite request for a little more time to hand over in 2027. It is how a man talks when he has accepted defeat. It is also how a man talks when palliatives meant for the poor and needy of this constituency are being sold or hoarded instead of reaching the people they were given for. The people are asking where they went, and the constituency deserves a straight answer.
Since he has asked, let us answer him with facts.
Hon. Iheanacho Obioma represented Umuahia North/Umuahia South/Ikwuano from 1999 to 2003, the founding years of this Republic. He championed the creation of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and chaired its committee in the Green Chamber. His work helped make it possible for a notable son of Abia, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, to emerge as the first chairman of the NDDC. That is how a representative puts his constituency on the national map.
Hon. Emeka Atuma represented the constituency from 2003 to 2007 and has remained in public life since.
Hon. Udo Ibeji represented Ikwuano/Umuahia from 2011 to 2015.
Hon. Samuel Onuigbo served from 2015 to 2023, across the 8th and 9th Assemblies, and his record can be checked:
- He attracted the rehabilitation of failed sections of the Umuahia–Ikwuano–Ikot Ekpene Federal Road in 2017, and the reconstruction contract for that corridor was awarded in 2019.
- He attracted a contract of over ₦400 million for the Amachara erosion gully at Umuopara in Umuahia South.
- He flagged off flood and erosion control along the Okwe–Obuohia Obi-Ibere road in Ikwuano.
- He facilitated water projects at Obunta Oboro, Inyila Ibere, Obuohia Ibere and Avonkwu Ibeku.
- He provided a generating plant for NTA Umuahia and trained and empowered youths, women and graduates of the constituency.
- He sponsored Nigeria’s Climate Change Bill as Chairman of the House Committee on Climate Change, and helped push the Federal Secretariat in Abia, which has since begun construction.
That is what a record looks like: an agency, roads, erosion control, water, bills and training, all of it traceable and verifiable. Now, Hon. Aguocha, it is your turn. Where is your scorecard? How many bills have you sponsored? How many federal projects have you attracted to Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South? Where are the roads, the erosion sites, the jobs? Do not answer with a list of boreholes and solar lights that others provided. Show the people what you did with the mandate they gave you in 2023.
Your abysmal failure is the sole reason the constituents are queuing behind Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, The people did not wake up one morning hating you. You gave them reason after reason: no scorecard, no impact, and now a plea to compare you with men who actually delivered. They are not queuing behind Orji out of sentiment. They are queuing because they want a representative with a legislative record they can check, who speaks for them in Abuja and not only in press releases.
The verdict is already forming in every market, village square and church. The constituency is ready for its next chapter, and it will not be written by you.
RE: When A Representative Asks You To “Show Him What His Predecessors Did,” He Has Already Accepted Defeat – By Mandate 27
