The governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has urged members of the Abia Online Media Practitioners to exhibit high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties in the state, and Nigeria at large. He stressed that the state of the nation, be it in Abia or Nigeria at large, is dependent on leadership and the media.
Governor Ikpeazu gave this charge om Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Governor’s lodge in Aba while playing host to members of the Abia Online Media Practitioners, led by their Chariman, Comrade Paddy Anyatonwu. The governor expressed displeasure at the level of unverified reports emanating from the media in recent times.
He said the media and the leadership of any nation, play pivotal roles and provide answers to the myriad problems in the nation if managers in these areas place society first in their actions.
The Governor emphasized on the need for the media in the State to strive towards objectivity, noting that Abia is strategic to the survival of Ndi Igbo.

He stated that the Media can make or mar the society. The governor admonishes members of the Abia Online Media Association to consider people around as they are viewed as perception managers, reiterating that perceptions when overstretched, may have a negative impact on the society. He charged them to be mindful of their reports even as the country is approaching the period of politicking.
On the administration of the State, Governor Ikpeazu, recalled that in 2015, he undertook the governance of Abia with passion and with a belief that he cannot do it all. He revealed that he met roads that had not been fixed for the first time and was thrown into deep thoughts on how to fix and make them last the test of time.
Governor Ikpeazu pointed out that his administration in a bid to be scientific and make the roads stand the test of time, introduced the cement technology which he has used in fixing roads in Aba like: Osusu, Umuola roads, among others.
Earlier, the Chairman, Abia Media Online Practitioners, Comrade Paddy Anyatowu, said they were at the lodge to interface with the Governor on areas the Association can foster unity in the State while also using the period to relate some of the challenges faced by members of the Association in their quest to carry out duties as watchdogs of the society
