Thousands of residents of Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Federal Constituency are set to benefit from the 2026 Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha Medical and Surgical Outreach, a comprehensive humanitarian healthcare programme aimed at providing free medical consultations, surgeries, laboratory services, eye care, medications, and health education to underserved communities.
The 19th edition of the annual outreach, spearheaded by Hon. (Lady) Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, is scheduled to hold in two phases. The first phase will take place at Isikwuato General Hospital from July 22 to July 25, while the second phase will be held at Madam Suzanna MBA Health Centre, Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area, from July 26 to July 30. The initiative continues a long-standing tradition of delivering quality healthcare to residents who may otherwise be unable to afford specialist medical treatment.
According to information released for the programme, beneficiaries will have access to a wide range of healthcare services at no cost. These include laboratory investigations, general and specialized surgeries, surgical screening for various medical conditions, health promotion and education, ophthalmology services, obstetrics and gynaecology, general medical consultations, eye surgeries, free eyeglasses, medications, counselling, and post-treatment follow-up care.
The day 2 of the ongoing outreach held at the Isuikwato General Hospital attracted hundreds of patients requiring both routine and specialized medical attention. Experienced medical professionals, surgeons, nurses, laboratory scientists, optometrists, and other healthcare workers provided diagnosis, treatment, and surgical interventions throughout the exercise.
Medical outreaches of this nature play a vital role in bridging healthcare gaps, particularly in rural communities where access to specialist services is often limited. By offering free consultations, surgeries, medications, and preventive healthcare education, the programme seeks not only to treat illnesses but also to improve public awareness of healthy living and early disease detection.
Speaking with newsmen today, Dr. Eziechila J.C. a consultant Ophthalmologist from FMC Abuja, commends the kind gesture of Barr. Onyejeocha towards such a programme, as he emphasized that this is the 19th edition and it is totally free. He said beneficiaries of thebfree medical outreach are not only residents of Abia State, as some do come from as far as Asaba in Delta State.
The former chairman of Isuikwato Local Government Area, Chima Agbazie, also commend the good work of Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha is setting up this free medical program, and said it is a program worth emulating.
