The Director of Women Affairs, Atuma Campaign Council, Chief Mrs. Nneoma Nwaigwe, has convened a strategic meeting of women leaders and mobilisers in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area as part of preparations for the forthcoming ward-to-ward campaign activities of Rep. Emeka Atuma.
The meeting brought together representatives of the Kabila Movement, Atuma Friends International, Grace Movement, Atuma Frontline, market women, non-indigene women, clan women, APC ward women leaders and women from the Osisioma Ngwa Campaign Council, including the Campaign Council Woman Leader.
Among the dignitaries at the meeting were the Abia Central APC Woman Leader, Hon. Clara Nwaobilor; APC Woman Leader, Osisioma Ngwa LGA, Hon. Mrs. Mary Chimezie; and Deputy Woman Leader, Osisioma Ngwa APC, Hon. Mrs. Merit Ihezuo.
Addressing the women, Chief Mrs. Nwaigwe urged them to intensify mobilisation at the unit and village levels, stressing the need to ensure that every available vote is properly mobilised.
She described Rep. Atuma as a man who can be trusted to keep his word and disclosed that he would soon commence a ward-to-ward tour across Abia Central, beginning with Ward 1 and Ward 4, with two wards expected to be covered each day.
According to her, the tour will provide an opportunity for Atuma to engage directly with communities and party members across the senatorial zone.
Chief Mrs. Nwaigwe also spoke about Atuma’s relationship with women, assuring the gathering that the candidate would make a special visit to them. She urged the women to prepare for the visit by strengthening their mobilisation structures across Osisioma Ngwa.
Referring to the recent visit to Isiala Ngwa South, which attracted a large turnout, she challenged the Osisioma Ngwa women to mobilise an even larger gathering when Atuma visits the local government.
She also clarified that the various political structures supporting Atuma had not been dismantled, but rather merged into a broader structure, with each structure retaining its identity.
Responding, the Osisioma Ngwa APC Woman Leader, Hon. Mrs. Mary Chimezie, assured the meeting that the women of the local government were ready for the mobilisation exercise.
She pledged to mobilise women massively for the forthcoming ward tour, particularly as the tour is expected to commence from her ward, Ward 1.
Mrs. Chimezie described Atuma as a caring leader who has demonstrated concern for the people through her personal encounters with him. She also pledged to support ward women leaders who may require additional assistance and called on the women to avoid disunity while working to bring more people into the APC.
Also speaking, the Abia Central Zonal Woman Leader, Hon. Clara Nwaobilor, urged the women to return to their wards and mobilise more members.
She disclosed that plans were also being considered for a door-to-door campaign that would see women moving into communities to communicate the Atuma campaign message and promote APC candidates in the local government.
Representatives of market women, structural women leaders, APC ward women leaders and heads of various support groups were given the opportunity to speak during the meeting.
The participants expressed their readiness to mobilise voters in their respective wards and polling units, while also welcoming what they described as the efforts to involve the various women’s structures in the campaign organisation.
Highpoints of the occasion included prayers for God to grant his blessing upon the forthcoming ward- to-ward campaign activities of Rep Emeka Atuma.
