The man, Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, excellently fits into the description of a leader in every context of the word. He was born on Monday, May 1, 1972, to the humble family of late Mr & Mrs Sam Ginger Amanaha, both of whom were primary school teachers. Ginger was scarcely born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Yet, cruel fate hit him via the demise of his father in his early secondary school days. That notwithstanding, he has assiduously carved out a niche for himself in education, leadership, youth empowerment, politics, and governance. Ginger’s selfless lifestyle and thoughtfulness have proven that the highest point of leadership is personal example and his is epitomized in integrity and performance. This has earned him the trust of the people.

Unveiling of Abia Online Media Patrons, Meet Hon. Ginger Onwusibe

In 1998, at the age of 26, and at the dawn of the present democratic dispensation, he contested and won the councillorship election to represent his ward as a councillor in Isialangwa North LGA. Within the 3yrs this tenure lasted, Ginger made many huge and indelible impacts as a councillor including becoming the Chairman of Abia State Councillors Forum, Leader of the Legislative Arm of the LG, giving electricity to his community Amapu Ntigha, etc.

In 2010, the then Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Chief T.A Orji, (Ochendo), out of his political sagacity, appointed Ginger the Transition Committee (TC) Chairman of Isialangwa North LGA (ISNLG). In this position, Ginger performed beyond the expectations of both the governor and the people of ISNLG. He donated transformers to Eziama Nsulu, completed Umuapiti Electricity Project, and energized the transformer at the palace of Ezeukwu of Ngwaukwu. He also refurbished the defunct SDP building now used as a military base at Ngwaukwu, rehabilitated the Isialangwa North Staff canteen, and built Ochendo library/ICT center at Nbawsi Umuomainta. In the area of youth empowerment, he donated ten tricycles to the youth of Isialangwa North and robustly sponsored the Ochendo liberation cup. He graded rural roads in every ward of LGA in a way no chairman or any person at all, has done before. He paid LG staff salaries as and when due including the backlog of 4months salary he inherited from his predecessor.

Again, in 2014, he was appointed TC chairman the second time which afforded him the opportunity to consolidate his previous performance and expand the frontiers of his people-oriented projects. He renovated the chairman’s office complex and introduced in it “Executive chambers” just as he embarked on the renovation and completion of the Women Development Hall. He graded the access road into the LG council and in all the wards in the LGA. He toured the ten political wards of the LG to listen to their earnings and familiarize with them. He sponsored the 2nd edition of the Ochendo Unity Cup and met all workers’ welfare needs which made him the toast of the workers. For the workers, he also laid the foundation stone of the NULGE secretariat on the 1st of May, 2015 during his 43rd birthday anniversary. He built and completed 3blocks of 58 lock-up shops at Orie Ntigha market.

This avalanche of novel life-impacting and people-oriented achievements propelled the people of ISNLG to massively vote for him in 2016 as Executive chairman of ISNLG, to continue the good work. Also in 2019, the same ISNLG electorate amid stiff opposition, gave him their mandate to represent ISNLG at Abia State House of Assembly (ABHA), Umuahia.

At ABHA, he has given his constituents representation beyond legislation. Besides sponsoring many motions and bills on the floor of the House, he has churned out the following programs and well-tailored projects:

  • He has built, installed, and powered 150 units of 60- watts solar-powered street lights in all the busy areas including the notable market squares across the LGA including but not limited to Isialangwa Junction, Ikputu Nsulu, Eziala Nsulu, Umuogele Umuakwu Nsulu, Ihie, Amorji Uratta junction, Orie Ntigha, Ntigha junction, etc.
  • The building of a three–classroom block with the principal’s office at Abayi Isingwa Community Secondary School.
  • He built the Chukwu Wachukwu Mini-stadium with perimeter fencing at Nbawsi.
  • Massive road grading in all parts of LGA without discrimination. Some of the many rural roads he graded include: Umunka-Umuogele-Nsirimo road, Abayi-Amorji road, Avor Umuerim road, St. George’s Nbawsi road, Umuezenta road, Abu-Umuololo road, etc.
  • He attracted from the Abia State Govt, the construction of Nbawsi- Umueze- Ikputu-Ururuka road.

  • He shared out two hundred and twenty-five bags of rice plus cash of about seven million (N7m) to his constituents during the 2019 Christmas celebration.
The achievements listed above and others space could not allow us to capture here are ocular proofs that Ginger is a man of the people and has a well of milk of human Kindness flowing from him which other politicians are enjoined to emulate.

Apart from being a juggernaut and crackerjack in the political landscape, Ginger is also a loving husband and caring father of three biological children and many adopted ones. He is the traditional Prime Minister of Amapu Ntigha Autonomous community and as a consequence, the next in command and hierarchy to the Traditional Ruler. Besides his community of birth, he has generously supported and in some cases initiated, developmental projects in many communities in ISNLG, which gesture has earned him a lot of reserved and highly prestigious chieftaincy titles in these communities. He is Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Otawike Youth Initiative, the vehicle with which he drives the empowerment of youths in ISNLG. He is a stout pillar and beacon of hope in the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ through his unquantifiable support to all churches without discrimination and also to the ministers of God. The litany of awards and honours on his person by these religious denominations, the chief of which is the Knight of Primatial Order of First African Church Mission (FACM) eloquently testifies his love towards God and His church.

To mark his 50th Birthday Anniversary, an abridged biography of Okenze Ginger Onwusibe and the compendium of his life touching developmental projects were packaged in a book titled “ The Ginger Phenomenon” which was launched on Sunday 1st May 2022 at Amapu Ntigha.

He contested for and won the Federal House of Representatives seat for Isialangwa Federal Constituency amid stiff intimidation, persecution and opposition given the fact that he contested against the incumbent party at the state and federal levels.

As a Member Representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency and

Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes in the 10th National Assembly, Rt.

Hon. Ginger Onwusibe has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a Federal Law maker in the 10th National Assembly. The good people of Isiala Nawa North and South are not surprised by his outstanding performance, given his impressive track record, pedigree, and antecedents which have been engrafted into his person since his entry into politics as a Councilor in 1999.
