The President Vision Africa International and Co-chair Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Bishop, Dr, Onuoha has harped on the need for Nigerians not to give up in the search for Peace, stressing that there is no alternative to peace.
The Methodist Bishop who spoke during the General Assembly of the IDFP held recently in Abuja, Nigeria on the theme: Interreligious Dialogue: Strengthening the Culture of Peace, Reconciliation and Justice, stated that contemporary happenings in our country indicates that much is needed to bring peace to our people who are currently troubled by poverty and merchants of destruction of property and life, adding that tension in the land has increased tremendously.
Bishop Dr, Onuoha hinted that having recently marked the 50th anniversary of the Nigeria-Biafra war which culminated in the slaughtering of millions of our citizens, one would have thought that the ravages of the war and the tragedy associated with it would have made our nation better in terms of pursing peace, but regretted that much still needs to be done in this regard.
The 2013 Global Peace Award Winner, enjoined the Nigerian Government to rise up and restore the confidence of the people by ensuring security of all citizens, no matter where they live and what religion they profess, stressing that across the Nigerian nation, uproars over injustice abound, noting that the inability of the government to rein in these perpetrators of terror attacks on our society emboldens them.
Bishop, Dr Onuoha, reiterated that amid bloodshed that is shredding our nation, there is need to embrace honesty and rally all religions while traditional and political leaders should be involved in the search for peace just as he called on the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal government to redouble its efforts at stopping further deterioration of the security situation in the country.
